The Houston Medical Center began in 1945 and Baylor University College of Medicine was the first facility of this huge campus. Today, it hosts some of the world's most prominent medical facilities educating and serving people from all over the world. At this international campus, you'll find the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Texas Children's Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine, Memorial Hermann, University of Texas Medical School, Rice University, Shriner's Hospital, Texas Heart Institute, and the U.S. Naval Hospital. Research, education, training, and taking care of the world's medical issues are all done at this campus.
Each year, over six million patients are treated at the Houston Medical Center and over 150,000 visitors are recorded daily. Almost 75,000 medical students attend the educational facilities on campus and there's over 12,000 volunteers to help patients and families of patients while staying at the Houston Medical Center. The Houston Medical Center is also known as the Texas Medical Center and getting there is easily accessible by public transportation. There are METRO buses, METRORail, and taxis that will take you to the Medical Center. It is located near the Houston Zoo and Hermann Park.
